Korea Tourism Organization¡¯s role is to manage a destination better and develop a better Seoul; KTO needs to find out the motivation and psychological needs of tourists, especially for the biggest consumer. The study is based on virtual images from the well-known Chinese search engine--Baidu--and connected the theory of soft power which has been a hot issue in last few years. The aim is to figure out what kinds of soft power make Seoul such a popular city for Chinese tourists and then use visual method to point out what kind of effect these images will bring to potential visitors. It was found that Seoul¡¯s landmarks are the most favorite places for Chinese tourists to take photos, the images for shopping follows behind, which point out that sightseeing and shopping is the primary goal of Chinese visitors. The images of the Korean wave are holding 3.9% of all images which does not equal to Korean¡¯s expectations. This indicates that the main soft power of Seoul comes from sightseeing and shopping. In other words, original travel patterns are still fit for Chinese tourists to visit Seoul, and shopping can be a highlight as time goes by and last for some time later. But as Chinese government has already realized the problem and may take action to limit flush shopping abroad, KTO needs to diversify some other soft power for Seoul to retain Chinese tourists before this happens. |
